Compliance Specialist

Full Time – Omaha, NE

Inflection is looking for a detail-oriented multi-tasker with a background in working with regulatory and compliance matters to join its growing legal team.

As a Compliance Specialist, you will work closely with Inflection’s products, vendors, partners, and customers. The ideal candidate will enjoy performing legal research, communicating with customers and consumers, and helping Inflection’s teams create and improve products within the confines of the law.

We are looking for a creative, ethical problem-solver who can work both independently and collaboratively in a fun start-up environment. Prior legal and/or compliance experience and education is required.

What you’ll be doing:

Compliance

  • Devour, learn, interpret, and apply current law and regulations to Inflection, its customers, and consumers. This includes brushing up on FTC and CFPB enforcement actions and pitching new ideas to the legal department on how to mitigate risks in the consumer reporting space

  • Conduct legal research and analysis on global, federal, state, and local laws affecting our company and products. This includes the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act, California’s Consumer Privacy Act, ban the box legislation, GDPR and comparable laws

  • Assist in the creation, revision, and implementation of scalable compliance policies and procedures that keep Inflection compliant with the law and our accreditation bodies

  • Cultivate a relationship of trust and reliability with our Omaha-based operations group, and be a first point-of-contact for compliance-related and legal questions

  • Take the lead in ensuring Inflection’s compliance resources and content align with internal policies and the current legal landscape

  • Manage the vendor questionnaire process and ensure customers receive background check result certifications.

  • Complete file disclosure requests in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act

  • Manage the dispute re-investigation process and advise Inflection agents on best practices to mitigate legal risk

  • Assist our training experts in crafting and delivering compliance-focused training material

Contracts Management

  • Ensure inbound contracts are routed to the legal department for review

  • File new contracts in our contracts database and track executed agreements to prevent expiration

Litigation (respond to internal and external inquiries related to case status, timelines, and document requests from outside counsel)

  • Assist in organizing discovery documents, when required

  • Track current litigation in the industry and summarize developments that impact Inflection’s operations

  • Create timelines, draft summaries, and organize facts related to active legal complaints to better assist outside counsel

Content Creation

  • Help us create edgy, educational content for our customers and partners! This includes blogs, webinars, and whitepapers

 
Your background:

  • Minimum 2 years in a compliance-focused role, preferably with a consumer reporting agency specializing in employment screening

  • Prior experience with a technology company is a bonus

  • Knowledge of  consumer protection laws including the FCRA and state credit reporting acts is required. Knowledge of GDPR and CCPA is a plus.

  • You have some good jokes

  • You exercise solid judgment, prioritize customer service, and keep a cool head under pressure

  • Top-notch oral and written communication skills, and an attention to detail

  • Ability to juggle a variety of projects at once while delivering quality work product

  • Comfortable working with remote colleagues

  • Eager and willing to propose creative new solutions that will positively impact compliance operations at Inflection.

  • J.D. or advanced degree in a related field preferred
